Here are 9 online multiplayer games on the Switch that you should play during the quarantine.
During the current lockdown, playing games online is a great way to stay in touch with friends. Personally, I’ve been struggling to find quality multiplayer games on Switch. It’s probably safe to assume that everyone’s already heard of Minecraft and Mario Kart, so to help myself, and hopefully others, I’ve compiled a list of some slightly less obvious choices.
This list covers multiple genres and styles with enough online multiplayer games to keep you busy and help to maintain your social life, even if we’d all probably rather be curled up in a ball with the door locked, shutting the world out with Animal Crossing New Horizons.

The Survivalists
The Survivalists is a sandbox island survival game set in the same universe as The Escapists. It makes for a great alternative to something like Minecraft as you and three friends online can explore a variety of Biomes; hunt (or be hunted); and fight off waves of enemies. What sets it apart is a unique taming system that allows you to build up a team of monkeys to help with building and quests.
Runbow
Runbow is a competitive platformer for up to nine players online. Five game modes including run and king of the hill, as well as over 140 challenges, and a unique color-based mechanic. Those make this a good choice if you’re looking for either a platforming or party game to play online.
Totally Reliable Delivery Service
Another cooperative sandbox game, Totally Reliable Delivery Service, spins with a unique premise of making deliveries. You and your team will have to work together to make deliveries as efficiently as possible. This one is much more comedic, with ragdoll physics described on the Nintendo website as “Controlled noodly chaos” and a load of machines and vehicles to play around with.
Castle Crashers Remastered
A remaster of the classic Castle Crashers beat em up where up to four players traverse a fantasy world full of fun bosses and enemies to fight. What sets it apart is its quirky sense of humor and art direction, with outlandish character designs and strange environments to discover.
Dungeon Defenders Awakened
Dungeon Defenders Awakened is a twist on the tower defense genre with added RPG elements. Build battlements and level up one of four character types to defend various dungeons and collect procedurally generated items.
Astro Bears
Astro Bears is a four-player online multiplayer party game similar to Tron. The objective is to be the last person standing by avoiding touching the brightly colored trails that each player leaves behind them. A team mode and a ton of different characters to play as should keep you entertained.
Super Kirby Clash
The latest Kirby game, Super Kirby Clash, is free to play. Team-based, it’s been designed for you to go through the story with friends. There are four different classes of Kirby to choose from, each with their own move sets and abilities, making sure everyone in your team will be of value.
Hover
Hover is like a spiritual successor to Jet Set Radio with similar fast-paced parkour-style gameplay. Up to 16 players can play together online and explore a vast futuristic city, compete in different challenges and missions.
Minecraft: Dungeons
Minecraft: Dungeons is a spin-off dungeon crawler with co-op for up to four players online. It contains a collection of different levels and locations to explore and heavy player customization options. It’s not available yet but is being released next month on May 26.
