Animal Crossing: New Horizons has sold over two million copies in Japan.
As you are probably aware if you spend any time on social media, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the thing right now, and it doesn’t seem to show any signs of slowing down.
The popularity of Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been ginormous and will be crucial for Nintendo’s end of year sale figures for their mainline console, the Switch, and its handheld variant, the Switch Lite. This is shown by further proof that in the time that Animal Crossing is exploding in terms of sales figures, the Nintendo Switch has also hit a milestone, with the console hitting the mark of 13 million units sold in Japan alone.
In the last month Animal Crossing has helped boost Switch sales by 836,094 units, between both the console version and the lite version of the Switch, for comparison, Famitsu state that the PlayStation 4 and its enhanced version, the PS4 Pro sold a combined 64,492 in the month of March.
Famitsu goes on to show the sales figures for New Horizons with other games that were released in the same month. Animal Crossing is outselling the next best selling title of March, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX by 2.3 million copies.
Furthermore, as of April 8, 2020, the Animal Crossing: New Horizons hype-train is showing no signs of slowing down. With more content and event updates coming down the line, it will continue to give players more reasons to return or purchase the game for the first time.
