Is the report true? Will there be another Nintendo Switch model?

A report is surfacing pointing in the direction of a brand-new Nintendo Switch console coming to grace us with its presence. While unconfirmed, it certainly would seem to be a perfect time to do so with the Switch Lite, which does away with docking mechanism, celebrating its launch anniversary next month. Perhaps, this rumor, which comes to us from Taipei-based Economic Daily News (via VGC).
Reportedly, this under wraps Switch will begin production later this year and launch in the first quarter of 2021. As much as we want to see another Switch version, we do need to put a damper on those getting too excited. EDN is far from the first source to claim Nintendo is working on a more powerful Nintendo Switch console.
Over the course of its lifetime, a myriad of sources have come out claiming this with varying degrees of credibility. A Games Industry article earlier this year featured a bunch of predictions from participating analysts. One such analyst was Dr. Serkan Toto, one of his speculations was the launch of a “Switch Pro,” sometime in 2020. While we’re cutting it relatively close, he could be on the right track with his speculation, he’d probably be accurate to label the price at $399, too.
Toto’s claim, however, does have some evidence against it. Namely, Nintendo itself came out to stamp out the rumor, which was also being spread by sources like DigiTimes, in particular. They claimed they’d rather put a bit of focus on the Switch Lite ahead of anything.
“We feel that we have not yet fully communicated the special features and appeal of Nintendo Switch Lite, so we will continue to address this going forward.”
With all this conflicting information, it’d pretty safe to say, we’ll probably never completely know, but with all the dead air Nintendo has left, it certainly wouldn’t be the most outrageous thing in the world to suddenly announce a more powerful version of the console they wish to sell for the foreseeable future. This rumor is also flying in the face of the rumored Nintendo Direct that might be revealed sometime this week.
