Pokémon Sword And Shield Adds Mewtwo To Max Raid Battles For A Limited Time, But There’s A Catch

Mewtwo is going to appear in Pokémon Sword and Shield Max Raid Battles… but there’s a huge drawback.

In commemoration of Pokémon Day, Nintendo has opted to drop in some new pocket monsters to briefly appear in their Gigamaxed or Dynamaxed forms as well as add brand-new ones to the roster for a limited time. One such Pokémon set to appear during the Pokémon Sword and Shield event is that of Mewtwo, the overly intelligent, Team Rocket-created Psychic Pokémon cloned from the uber-rare Mew. While it sounds awesome – because it is for most any longtime or new fan – there is a pretty heavy drawback that will make you left disappointed.

During the event, which is going on through today to March 1, fans can only encounter Mewtwo. Sadly, this means trainers have no choice but to just battle it and watch it disappear from their grasps without even being able to toss a Pokéball to see if it will work.

To be fair, though, Mewtwo isn’t the only one coming to Max Raid Battles in Pokémon Sword and Shield this time around, trainers also may get the chance to get their hands on the Kanto starters. Others such as Kingler, Toxtricity, Orbeetle, Hatterene, and Grimmsnarl will also jump in from time to time.

Mewtwo quickly became a fan-favorite making its mark first in 1998’s aptly and accurately named Pokémon: The First Movie, Mewtwo was brought in as the villain and a lab experiment. If that isn’t enough, though, Netflix is launching Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back – Evolution tomorrow, so you can be on the lookout then. You can watch the full trailer here.

What do you think of this news? You disappointed you can’t catch Mewtwo?
